Main purpose of the role

Our External Relations team is seeking a Senior Communications Manager as one of two post-holders in the strategic communications sub-team, both reporting to the Director of External Communications and Marketing.  In this role, you will be jointly responsible for all areas of strategic communications work, and specifically responsible for senior leadership events management, developing a stakeholder engagement strategy, and other projects.

Our communications team plays a crucial role in advising and supporting NAO client-facing teams with the promotion of their and wider NAO work, helping them achieve even greater influence and impact with a broad range of external stakeholders.  

The NAO has a new and ambitious three-year communications strategy, which you will play a key role in implementing. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a stakeholder engagement strategy, covering how the NAO, Leadership Team and client-facing teams should understand and improve their influence with their stakeholders. You will also be asked to lead on or provide support to other projects such as developing and implementing a communications plan for one of the NAO’s priority corporate themes.

You will be specifically responsible for proactively managing our events. Your involvement will be focused on events involving the Comptroller & Auditor General (C&AG) and Leadership Team members, and ensuring the NAO is strategic in planning our events involvement and gains maximum impact from these activities.

This is a hands-on communications delivery role that requires attention to detail and tenacity to ensure deadlines are met and that communications activities are co-ordinated.
